Fertility and Reproductive Health

Acupuncture has been used for centuries to successfully treat many gynecological conditions, restore fertility and
maintain health during pregnancy for tens of thousands of women a year.

Infertility: Acupuncture and herbs are used to treat infertility by increasing the blood flow to
the reproductive organs and restoring healthy function and balancing the hormones.

Acupuncture and herbs can aid conception, whether natural or medically assisted.  It also helps to keep the parents healthy, ensuring a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

In Chinese medicine when the circulation is decreased and the body organs are not in balance, illness can occur which can lead to infertility. Sustain Community Acupuncture can help diagnose and treat many reasons for infertility and reproductive dysfunction.  We offer many affordable options and our therapists who specialize in fertility can work with you one-on-one to create a treatment protocol that fits your needs.

Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and food therapy can be used to increase ovarian reserve or
effectiveness and assist in re-establishing sperm quality. Acupuncture can also help assist fallopian tube
motility and to enhance the thickness and receptivity of the uterine lining to assist embryo implantation.

Acupuncture is frequently used in couples with fertility concerns involving conditions such as:

  • PCOS
  • Endometriosis
  • luteal phase defect
  • low ovarian reserve
  • hormone imbalance
  • ovulation disorders
  • recurrent miscarriage
  • male reproductive factors

Research has also shown acupuncture to be effective in assisting in vitro fertilization (IVF) in
preparation and during embryo transfer, helping to relax the uterus and reducing miscarriage rates.

What to Expect from your fertility treatment.

You may be clinically diagnosed as reproductively challenged if you have been trying to conceive for more than one year for women under 35, or for six months for women over 35.  Many factors can play into fertility issues, including poor nutrition, stress, medications, past use of hormonal birth control, and pathological conditions. At Sustain we are sensitive to the frustration and anxiety that women and couples face in their journey to conceive, and offer support for this sometimes trying time.

Depending on the severity of your condition, your practitioner will usually recommend a treatment schedule of 2-3 sessions per week for the first 3-4 weeks, tapering gradually to a maintenance schedule of once per week depending on how well the patient responds to acu-therapy.  Herbs are also given to regulate the cycle and enhance reproductive factors.  Although the cost of fertility treatment may seem daunting, we offer several package options that make the price significantly less than that of most fertility centers, artificial reproductive methods or the cost of raising an infant.
